About Us

MISSION STATEMENT

The Young Scholars of Egypt are unswerving in their quest to discover the best in themselves while serving the world around them. The goal of the school is to nurture inquiring minds who understand the importance of balancing both physical and mental challenges. The school aims to cultivate a profound appreciation of the arts, to

embrace innovative technology as a means of individualizing the learning process, and to recognize that a deep faith is the path to honesty, respect and empathy.

VISION

Our vision aims to promote the role of education as the solution to Egypt’s rebirth and democratic future, establishing a community of high scholarship, developing responsible citizens who seek justice and goodness in all human kind.

EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY

Young Scholars of Egypt is an academically rigorous, caring, and dynamic school that seeks to support the development of a learning community that values the acquisition of knowledge. We expect our students will use their talents for the betterment of their country with the courage to protect our cultural identity and resolve social problems.  We will prepare our students to thrive in and enjoy our highly technological and interconnected world.

YSE values honesty, empathy, creativity and scholarship. We believe that our students will learn to make educated choices, to develop a deep appreciation for the visual, as well as the performing arts; to value their athletic successes, as well as their intellectual endeavors; to build on their strengths and appreciate the worth of each individual.

Young Scholars of Egypt follows a conceptual integrated curriculum with special emphasis on the Humanities, the performing arts, and athletics.  Our program is based on a conceptual understanding of a wide body of knowledge. In addition, a high degree of emphasis is placed on inquiry, experimentation, making connections, research and analysis.

In our school, our main goal is to ensure that students really understand what they are asked to learn; to understand is to be able to wisely and effectively use what they know, in context; to apply knowledge and skill effectively.  Our challenge is never to reduce the understanding of a concept to a mere simplistic statement for recall. When students gain genuine understanding of a concept, they keep it for the rest of their lives.

One of our main objectives is to prepare our students to empathize, the ability to escape one’s own emotional reactions and to grasp another’s.

When we “try to understand” another person, people, or culture, we strive for empathy. It is the learned ability to grasp the world from someone else’s point of view. Unlike perspective, empathy involves seeing from inside another person’s worldview.

YSE HONOR CODE

The YSE honor code reads as follows:  “As a young scholar of Egypt, I promise to serve my community and myself with honesty, respect, and empathy.”

As the adults in the community, our role is not only to help the children learn and understand this honor code, but to aspire to consistently adhere to its principles ourselves.
